I am a therapist who is a little bit like an analyst. You will not recline on a couch, but I will listen for patterns in your thoughts. Patterns can indicate old pains that haunt the here and now and keep you from living your best life. Like an analyst I may explore the content of dreams or fantasies. If speaking about your experiences feels too overwhelming we may use other methods of expression like drawing.
EMDR uses "bilateral stimulation"—such as side-to-side eye movements or tapping—to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and vividness.
